Old is New: Contemporary Sideboards Inspired By the 50s and the 60s
We all know that old trends always come back to life. This happens because fashion and design in general are always something cyclic. Regardless of the development of new technologies and material science, designers often turn to what already exists and to what already is a success for an inspiration. Usually, fashion and design trends are associated with specific time periods and for that reason the style of the old periods are constantly recreated, reinvented, redefined. In a world where everything already exists, inspiration is everywhere but modern designers can not only copy the old styles, they need to adapt them and to bring to life old but modern and new ideas. And since this is not always easy, today we will show you some ideas of brilliant contemporary sideboards that are inspired by the 50s and the 60s and that we simply fell in love with.

This striking sideboard features a sliding door whose front panel is made by vertically assembled parallel listels of different types of wood that, with their different textures and colors, create a unique effect and add a vertical element to the horizontal silhouette of the piece.
The interior is divided in drawers on one side, made in precious walnut panels, and a large open space on the other, equipped with adjustable shelves. This is a very luxurious piece but it’s exclusive design with it’s vintage look gives us a warming and cozy feeling brought directly by the 50s.
Dandy is a sleek and stylish luxury sideboard. Since its very versatile, it can be used as a drinks cabinet and located both on a living room or dressing room. Its body is entirely made of solid walnut wood and it ressembles a kitsch radio, because of its shape and the use of grill cloth on the doors.
It is accented by a brass trim on the body edges and supported by tapered legs with brass ferrules. The best from Scandinavian design roots.

The attitude and irreverence reflected by this piece made it an icon, never unnoticed in any part of the world.
Drawers that count different and varied techniques from glass to wood, lacquer color to mirror and gold leaf compose this contemporary sideboard, finely refined by brass handles.

Designed by the MAAM, (the museum of art and furnishing with which Morelato collaborates, promoting an international competition for young designers and each year developing prototypes of great interest), this sideboard is made of different wood types to create the visually striking cubic perspective of the front panels, reminiscent of the Renaissance art. Inside, the central space is equipped with three drawers, while outside the brass feet add sophistication and a modern touch.
