The Versatile Modern Cabinet Inspired on Fibonacci Sequence

Utopia Architecture studio from Guangzhou, China has created a versatile modern cabinet that draws design cues from the Fibonacci sequence.

In mathematics the Fibonacci sequence, by definition, is a series of numbers: {0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, … }, in which the next number is found by adding up the two numbers before it.

Modern CabinetIt turns out that there are more practical implementations on the matter than we initially learned. Studio Utopia came up with this playfully functional furniture item entitled Fibonacci Cabinet, inspired by the Math principles of the Italian mathematician.

The designers at Utopia have taken this integer sequence and translated into industrial design: this Cabinet design draws influences from traditional Chinese medicine storage units. The result is an elegant and functional furniture piece, with seven storage units, each with a size “dictated” by the Fibonacci sequence: a big cabinet on the top (550mm x 550mm), five drawers (340mm, 210mm, 130mm, 80mm, 50mm in length and width respectively) and a table base on the bottom.

The cabinet is arranged in multiple square-sized drawers, ultimately creating one unified piece. It is composed of seven units with one stand and six modular cabinets. The cabinet may be taken apart to be used separately for storage, making this a fun and versatile project.

This storage piece is made almost entirely of bamboo, which puts its durability out of question.
