In the past years, collaborations with galleries and private commissioners have framed a considerable part of Valentin’s work. The acclaim of the pieces displayed at art fairs such as Art Basel, Collective NewYork, Pavillion Art, and Design Paris/London – where the spring-summer console has been awarded PAD London’s Best Contemporary Design Piece in 2013 – has also been of great reward and influence. These experiences have opened a new spectrum in which reflection on and dedication to the process is almost an end in itself, giving a new impulse to the work.

It’s entirely natural for me to build something out of nothing. I never sketch. Early on in my life I learned how to capture certain situations and moments, a specific atmosphere or feeling in my thoughts, detail it further in my mind by putting myself right into it.

The contemporary design pieces that the modern artist makes always developed from an interest in materials, their travels and the histories they tell. Using craftsmanship techniques, he creates new narratives with them in his art furniture. The artist treats materials like living organisms, they represent the opportunity to merge with other elements in various ways and their fusion stamps the final piece with its unique character.

In the act of artistic creation, Loellman likes to think of his wood cabinets as ‘being born’. And naturally, every child is different. This difference accounts for the variety and forms in which manifold materials might join together.
