Vincenzo De Cotiis’ Gallery Worthy Modern Cabinets
Vincenzo De Cotiis finds inspiration for hisfurniture design in classical art movements, from the Italian Baroque to the French Impressionists and their transition en plein air. Interpreting these movements using a contemporary design lens, De Cotiis approaches his work as a painter would, considering the light, color, and materials. He masterfully weaves together salvaged and reclaimed materials, the signs of their age left intact, with precious materials such as Indian jasper. The original form of the materials is often difficult to identify, but their histories are always visible.
Vincenzo De Cotiis aims for perfect imperfection, achieved through the deconstruction, re-construction, and re-appropriation of salvaged materials such as fiberglass, stone, and wood. De Cotiis believes that modern art and functionality are fundamentally linked, and as such his pieces transcend the boundary that divides the two disciples. Modern furniture pieces such as the DC1727 Wall Cabinet defy easy categorization and exist simply as beautiful objects. Fashioned from Murano glass, silver cast brass, and silver-plated brass, the piece appears as a pool of light, fluid and luminous.
Vincenzo De Cotiis designs and produces one-off and limited-edition pieces for architectural and interior projects, private homes, hotels and restaurants across the globe. Highly collectible, the work is sold through his gallery in Milan and exhibited at leading global design fairs, including Design Miami/Basel, PAD London, Dubai Design Week, TEFAF and Art Paris.
